Lisbon on a Budget (That Doesn't Feel Like a Budget)
Pastel buildings, custard tarts and a four-figure trip that lives like a five-figure one.
Lisbon is the European city that still feels generous. A great room is €120, a memorable dinner is €40 a head, and the metro from the airport costs less than a coffee at Heathrow.
Stay in Príncipe Real. It's quieter than Bairro Alto, walkable to everything, and full of small hotels that look like they cost twice as much. The 28 tram is a tourist trap — walk instead, the city rewards it.
Dinner: Cervejaria Ramiro for shellfish, Taberna da Rua das Flores for everything else. Custard tarts at Manteigaria, not the famous one.
